People in some North East areas are set to receive extra help towards heating costs after Cold Weather Payments were triggered.
The region has recently experienced freezing temperatures, with some places seeing the mercury drop below zero degrees. The £25 Cold Weather Payments, delivered by the Department for Work and Pensions, are given to those who receive certain benefits or Support for Mortgage Interest.
You’ll get a payment if the average temperature in your area is recorded as, or forecast to be, zero degrees Celsius or below over seven consecutive days. You’ll get £25 for each seven-day period of very cold weather between 1 November 2024 and 31 March 2025.
Full details of eligibility rules and who qualifies for the payments can be seen here. If you’re eligible, you’ll get these payments automatically.
Now the Cold Weather Payments have been triggered in 18 postcode areas – these include four in Northumberland. Other locations are in Cumbria and Scotland. Below is the full list of postcodes where the payment was triggered on Thursday, January 2. You can also check here if the weather where you live means you may get a payment.
