Dublin weather: Met Eireann pinpoint when snow will hit with multiple warnings in place

The cold snap shows no sign of letting up with snow set to hit Dublin this weekend.

Multiple weather warnings have been put in place by Met Eireann this weekend. A Yellow snow and ice warning comes into place from 5pm this evening in the capital and lasts until 5pm on Sunday.

The national forecaster warns of falls of sleet and snow with snowfall accumulations expected with potential impacts including; hazardous travelling conditions, poor visibility and travel disruption.

It will be a cold start to the day in the city with frost and ice gradually clearing. It will be mostly dry during the day with some outbreaks of rain and highs of just 2 to 4C.

Temperatures will drop as low as -1C tonight with heavy rain at times. This rain will increasingly turn to sleet and snow overnight.

Sunday will be cold and blustery with spells of rain, sleet and snow throughout the day with temperatures ranging between 0 and 3C. And Met Eireann is warning it will remain “bitterly cold” through the early part of next week.

The forecast for Monday reads: “Bitterly cold on Monday with widespread frost and lying snow. There’ll be sunshine and scattered wintry showers, the wintry showers mainly confined to western and northern regions.

“Top temperatures generally ranging from zero to +3 degrees but staying below freezing over snow-fields. Clear spells and scattered sleet and snow showers on Monday night, the showers most frequent in the west and north. Widespread frost and ice with lowest temperatures of -5 to zero degrees in moderate west to northwest winds.”

It will get even colder on Tuesday with the mercury plummeting to as low as -8C. Met Eireann say: “Another very cold day on Tuesday with sunshine and just a few wintry showers in the west and north of the country. Frost and ice will linger in some areas all day with highest temperatures ranging from -1 to +4 degrees in moderate northwest winds.

“Bitterly cold on Tuesday night with severe frost as minimum temperatures range from -8 and -4 degrees in light and variable winds. Areas of freezing fog will develop in some areas leading to hazardous travelling conditions.”

Meanwhile we can expect more freezing conditions on Wednesday with the forecast reading: “Very cold on Wednesday with areas ice and freezing fog lingering in many areas throughout the day. Where the fog does clear there will be spells of sunshine.

“Maximum afternoon temperatures will generally range from -3 to zero degrees in mostly light westerly winds. A little less cold in the northwest of the country. Another bitterly cold night on Wednesday night with widespread frost and ice along with areas of freezing fog. Lowest temperatures of -7 to -2 degrees.”
