Met Eireann has forecast four days of possible snow, with weather charts pinpointing exactly where will be blanketed by the white stuff.
The weather experts have said it’s going to stay cold with generally dry and bright conditions initially. They’ve added: “Possibly turning more unsettled at the weekend with the chance of rain, sleet and snow.”
As we head into early next week, it looks like the chilly conditions are set to stick around, with more wintry showers on the cards. Met Eireann has identified that from Saturday, January 4, several days of snowfall are expected.
Weather mapping experts WX Charts indicates that snow is due to hit the south of Ireland on Sunday, January 5, with the wintry weather gradually moving towards the centre of the country. Over the next three days, snow patches are predicted in various parts, with the last flurries expected in higher areas of the northwest on Wednesday, January 8.
However, it’s worth mentioning that predicting snow can be tricky, and forecasts beyond 10 days can often be unreliable and prone to change. Here’s what you can expect for the upcoming week: On Wednesday, January 1, any overnight rain will swiftly clear from the south in the morning, leading to a bright and fresh day with sunny spells and scattered showers, most frequent in the west and north, reports RSVP Live.
Some showers may turn to hail or sleet later, particularly in the north and west. Temperatures will peak at 4 to 8 degrees with light to moderate west to northwest breezes.
Tonight will be much colder with clear spells and scattered showers, some turning wintry in the north and west. Expect lowest temperatures of -2 to +1 degrees in a light northerly breeze with widespread frost and some ice developing.
Thursday, January 2, will be a cold, largely dry and sunny day with a few light showers in the west and north, some turning to hail or sleet. Daytime temperatures will range from 2 to 5 degrees in a light northerly breeze.
The night will be cold, dry and clear, though scattered showers will move into Ulster towards morning, possibly turning to sleet on higher ground. Widespread frost and some ice developing with lowest temperatures of -3 to +1 degrees in light to moderate northwesterly winds.
Friday, January 3, will see frost and ice gradually clearing in the morning, leaving a dry and sunny day with just a few showers in the north and west. Highest temperatures will be between 3 to 6 degrees in a light westerly breeze.
Friday night will stay cold and mainly dry with clear spells. Scattered showers will continue near west and north coasts.
Lowest temperatures of -3 to +1 degrees, with widespread frost and some ice forming once again. Mist and fog patches will develop also in a light southwesterly breeze.
The weekend’s forecast is still up in the air. Current predictions indicate that it will remain chilly with an area of low pressure directing rain across the country later on Saturday.
This rain could turn into sleet or snow in some areas, with more bouts of rain, sleet and snow possible throughout Saturday night and Sunday, along with strong winds. However, there’s a chance this system might stay south of us, allowing for a continuation of the drier, clearer conditions.
