A drunk man ended up in police custody after taking a hungry woman to McDonald’s. Charles Agba came to the attention of police after he swerved in the road with no headlights on.
Agba, of Hinckley Road, Leicester, had met the woman following a night out with friends on Friday, November 8, with the pair going back to his home for wine. However, she became hungry and the pair headed to McDonald’s at around 2am but discovered that it was closed.
Officers had seen Agba’s Citroen Catcus on its way along Lubbesthorpe Way to the McDonald’s without headlights on and swerving between lanes. They pulled in behind him at the restaurant, where Agba reportedly told them he had only drank “a glass of wine”.

A breathalyser at the police station showed Agba had a reading of 55 microgrammes of alcohol per 100ml. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.
At Leicester Magistrates’ Court on Monday (December 23), Agba’s solictor, Steve Morris, said the arrest and potential ban from the road could jeopardise future employment. He said: “Mr Agba has spent about 10 years in the UK having a very difficult time fighting for his immigration status. As a result he has not been able to work until now.
“He’s hoping to get a job but the disqualification from driving will affect that. He had gone out with friends and met a young lady. They went back to his home and had some wine. She said she was hungry and she directed him to McDonald’s. When they arrived they found it was closed.”
The chair of the bench, Gareth Roberts, told Agba: “You were not driving well, you had no lights on and you had a passenger.”
Agba, who pleaded guilty to drink-driving, was banned fom driving for 12 months, while magistrates also fined him £120. He will also have to pay £85 court costs and a £48 victim surcharge.
