The Christmas Day crash (Wednesday, December 25) happened on the southbound route between Loughborough and Coalville. A spokeswoman for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) said the driver was uninjured in the incident – making it a very lucky escape considering the images revealed by fire crews.
LFRS said crews from Loughborough Station and Coalville Station were called to the scene at 12.31pm. The driver was not trapped in the vehicle, the spokeswoman said.
On social media, Loughborough Station said in response to the crash: “If you are travelling this Christmas be sure to stop and rest. Tiredness kills. Thankfully the driver walked away and is all okay.”
