Driver airlifted to hospital after van flips in Barnstaple crash

A man was airlifted from the scene of a crash after a van flipped in Devon yesterday, Monday, December 30. Emergency services were called to a single-vehicle crash in Barnstaple where a man was seriously injured.

Police were called to the scene at 12.05pm after a crash involving a DFSK Loadhopper on the B3232 near Roundswell Roundabout. The van overturned in the crash and flipped onto its side.

The driver of the van, a man in his 50s from Barnstaple, suffered serious injuries. He was airlifted to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

The road was closed for around five hours while emergency services examined the scene and the van was recovered. Police are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage to come forward.

A statement from Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Witnesses are sought to a single vehicle collision in Barnstaple which left a man seriously injured.

“Officers were called at 12.05pm on Monday 30 December after the incident involving a DFSK Loadhopper van on the B3232 near Roundswell Roundabout. The van overturned and ended up on its side.

“The driver, a man in his 50s from Barnstaple, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

“Police closed the road for around five hours for an examination of the scene and for the van to be recovered.

“Officers are investigating the circumstances of the incident and are asking for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to get in touch.
