Derbyshire police were called to deal with an overturned car in one of many incidents officers attended during the “busy” festive period. Mercia and Hilton Police’s Safer Neighbourhoods Team has detailed a number of incidents that have taken place across the South Derbyshire region in the week between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
These range from returning young children back home to people acting suspiciously. Following one incident, police shared an image of a car on its roof on a country road.
Officers were called to Repton Road, between Milton and Ticknall, to assist with the removal of the vehicle after a crash, which took place amid “inclement weather conditions”.
Elsewhere, officers responded to a suspected theft from a motor vehicle in Repton and in a heartwarming gesture, visited a bereaved, vulnerable resident who was spending their first Christmas alone. Police were also tasked with returning young children back to their parents after being found in a play area far away from home.
Describing another incident in Findern, a spokesperson for the police said: “Responding to concerns raised by local residents in Findern following reports that young people were seen acting suspiciously. After-dark targeted patrols took place in the area, resulting in two young men being dealt with after they were discovered on a public bench having just consumed cannabis.
“Separately, with keen disappointment, some children and young adults, who police engaged with this weekend, had to be advised of the importance of listening to safety advice at incidents, rather than addictively tapping on their mobile phone screens.
“The period between Christmas Day and the New Year can be a busy time for police. Further evening patrols will take place tonight and throughout next week.”
