TransPennine Express (TPE) is urging customers not to travel until after midday today (Wednesday, January 1) as persistent heavy rain has caused flooding on several routes – primarily in the north west.
The flooding is causing significant issues in Greater Manchester and Cheshire and is impacting many rail services across the major trans-Pennine routes. The TPE services from Hull Paragon Station to Liverpool Lime Street, due to depart at 11.03am and 12.03pm today, are among the services that have been affected and cancelled.
Northern’s 11.15am service from Hull to Manchester Piccadilly was also cancelled. With the heavy rain set to continue for several hours, further flooding is likely and rail travellers have been advised to delay journeys, at least until the afternoon.
Andy McClements, customer experience and transformation director for TransPennine Express, said: “We are urging anyone travelling this morning across the affected routes to defer their travel or claim a refund.” Customers can check their services via the TPE website: tpexpress.co.uk/travel-updates or at nationalrail.co.uk
Northern said various routes across its network were being impacted by poor weather. Advising travellers to check before making journeys, Northern said: “The Met Office has issued amber and yellow weather warnings for rain, snow and wind across Great Britain.
