Devon warning as four in hospital after taking what they thought was MDMA

Four people have been taken to hospital in Cornwall after consuming potentially contaminated MDMA. A warning has been issued to anyone taking synthetic drugs as it could lead to seizures.

Organisations in Cornwall and Devon have issued a drug contamination alert following the incident in the run-up to Christmas. Between Wednesday, December 18, and Friday, December 20, the four hospitalised people are understood to have consumed ecstasy and ended up suffering from severe chest pain, seizures or have been incapacitated, reports CornwallLive.

In a warning, the charity Together Devon put out a post on its Facebook page saying: “We have been made aware of a drug alert issued in Cornwall in relation to potentially contaminated Ecstasy/ MDMA. There have been four people conveyed to hospital in Cornwall, following use of what they thought to be MDMA or Ecstasy.

“In instances where Naloxone was administered, the overdose effect has been reversed for a period of time, however, once it has worn off, seizures returned.”

The charity warned that there have been reports of other people feeling unwell after taking what they thought was ecstasy / MDMA. The substance is described as being in a white, crystalline powder form.
