North Devon MP Ian Roome has officially opened the Yeo View Building, a brand-new office building that provides modern workspace for key hospital staff at North Devon District Hospital.
Yeo View is the first major build in the Our Future Hospital programme, that promises to build a better hospital in North Devon to meet the needs of the local community today and into the future.
Mr Roome said: “I was honoured to lead the opening of the new Yeo View building. It was fantastic to join with staff, developers and press at the event to celebrate the completion of the new facility and how it marks a pivotal moment in the overall hospital redevelopment.”
The new facility allows the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust to progress with the next phases of its critical development. This includes modern residential accommodation for staff and is critical to boosting recruitment and retention levels as well as new hospital buildings, including operating theatres, and intensive care and diagnostic facilities that will all transform patient care for local people.
Chris Tidman, Deputy Chief Executive at the Royal Devon, said: “North Devon District Hospital is the most remote hospital in mainland England and for many members of the community, there is nowhere else to go when they fall ill.
“The Government has recognised that our hospital urgently needs investment, and today marks the first in a series of steps that will see us renew, refurbish or replace the entire hospital so it’s fit to deliver modern healthcare to the local community for years to come.”
Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust says it is proud to have been able to build Yeo View in partnership with businesses from across the North Devon community, including providing the opportunities for apprentices and wider learning.
