Derby County have completed their first January transfer by signing Viking FK forward Lars-Jorgen Salvesen.
The striker completed the formalities of the move today with Derby paying an undisclosed fee for the ex-Norway under-21 international.
Salvesen has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract at Pride Park and the move is subject to international and a successful visa application. The move represents another foray into the European market by Derby who raided Sweden for Jacob Widell Zetterstrom and AZ Alkmaar in the Netherlands for Kenzo Goudmijn.
Salvesen scored 12 goals for Viking last season as they finished third in the Eliteserien and he also registered four assists across the campaign. He is described as a mobile target man and fits the profile Warne wanted from a centre forward when the January window opened for business.
Salvesen will arrive at a time when Derby need competition for places in the frontline with Jerry Yates, on loan from Swansea, currently the club’s top scorer. It is expected that Salvesen will not be thrown straight into the game against Watford at the weekend given the Eliteserien finished back at the start of last month.
The 28-year-old’s arrival is not going to be the last with Derby eager to back Warne in the market as they look for a strong second half to the season. Derby are also chasing a creative midfield player and a winger, while the club is also expected to move players out.
That process started earlier this month when Sonny Bradley joined promotion-chasing Wycombe while Tawanda Chirewa has been sent back to Wolves after Derby decided to cut short his loan spell.
