An arson investigation has been launched after a vehicle fire spread to a nearby property in Plymouth yesterday, Monday, December 30. Police are investigating the suspicious fire and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Around 5.55am, emergency services were called to the scene of a fire outside of a property on North Road West. The fire, which involved a Yamaha motorcycle, spread to the front of a house, destroying the front door and damaged the guttering and fascia boards.
Three fire crews were called to the scene and worked to extinguish the blaze. One person was able to escape the property before it spread. It is not thought that anyone suffered any injuries.
Police officers are now investigating and treating the fire as arson. Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has information which may assist officers, is asked to call 101 quoting the reference number 50240325939.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police has said: “Police are appealing for information and witnesses following a suspicious fire in Plymouth this morning, 30 December.
“Officers were called at 5.55am after a Yamaha motorcycle was found on fire outside an address in North Road West. Fire and ambulance services also attended.
“The fire spread to the front of the house destroying the front door and causing damage to guttering and fascia boards. No-one was injured. Officers closed the road and this reopened around 7.50am.
“Police are investigating and are currently treating the fire as arson. They would like to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area around the time of the fire, or anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact police online or by telephone on 101, quoting crime reference 50240325939.”
In a statement, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “One motorcycle well alight which spread to mid terraced two storey property measuring approximately 8 metres x 15 metres.
“Fire contained to the outside of property, one person self extricated from property. Crews used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, one safety jet, thermal imaging camera and short extension ladder.
“Aerial ladder platform attended and cut away fascias of outside of building and confirmed no fire spread. The cause of the fire was believed to be deliberate.”
