A defibrillator has disappeared from a Northumberland gym, with the owners now set to fundraise for new life-saving equipment. Aggie and Michal Kuliga, owners of Oasis Gym on Woodhorn Road, in Ashington, learned of the distressing incident on Sunday morning.
Money was originally raised for the defibrillator back in 2015, when Darin Ferguson, a client of the gym, which was under different ownership, collapsed. This event led to the defibrillator being installed on the wall outside, to make it accessible to everyone in the Northumberland town.
Couple Aggie and Michal, who have owned the business since July 2022, have been left shocked by the loss. Aggie said: “Quite a few of our customers are unhappy, as they originally helped to fundraise for the defibrillator back in 2015.
“One of the staff actually has a heart condition, so it’s really important that we have a defibrillator here. We need it back, not just for the gym but for everyone in Ashington.
“We are now starting the process of fundraising for a new defibrillator, and that is our priority at the moment. If anyone would be willing to donate, it would be hugely appreciated, and any extra funds that we raise will go towards the purchase of additional emergency medical equipment which will be available for community use.”
“Your support could help save someone’s life, so thank you for any donation that you can give.”
The GoFundMe has currently raised £260 of its £1,500 target. To donate, visit the fundraising page here.
