An eagle-eyed police officer became suspicious of the driver of a car who was hiding his face at a junction, a court heard.
That was the start of an 80mph chase through Scunthorpe, during which the driver attempted to drive between two on-coming cars as he sought to evade the police.
Callum Haskins, 30, of no fixed address, admitted dangerous driving and driving not in accordance with a licence on October 23.
At Grimsby Crown Court, Michael Masson, told how PCSO Williams saw the driver of a grey car acting suspiciously at around 3.40pm that day. He had a female passenger. When the officer activated the blue lights on the police car, Haskins failed to stop and sped off.
The police officer in pursuit in a police car saw Haskins’ car overtake other vehicles in an unsafe manner and travelling at speed on the wrong side of the road, including 80mph on Scotter Road.
She also witnessed the car going the wrong way around a roundabout and driving on a pavement. Haskins drove the wrong way down a dual carriageway and tried to squeeze between two on-coming cars. But he failed and hit a Ford Fiesta causing extensive damage.
He then went on to a dead end and collided with the police vehicle to force an escape. Mr Masson said police decided to call off the pursuit due to the danger to other road users.

Haskins’ car was later found abandoned on Cowper Avenue, Scunthorpe. He was eventually traced and arrested by police.
For Haskins, Holly Thompson said her client had struggled with mental health problems and a difficult upbringing, including adverse childhood experiences. She said he had been helping out mates with a lift.
Judge Gurdial Singh jailed Haskins for a total of 15 months, which included a month in jail for a breach of a community order. He also banned the driver for a total of 31 months and ordered him to take an extended retest.
