Sara Sharif’s father Urfan Sharif was left hospitalised after his neck was sliced with a tuna can lid in prison, it has been claimed. The incident allegedly happened on New Year’s Day at HMP Belmarsh in south London.
Police are investigating an assault, the Prison Service has confirmed. The 43-year-old was sentenced for the murder of his own daughter Sara, who died aged just 10-years-old, with wounds which a senior prosecutor described as the worst injuries she’d seen in a case involving a child, reports WalesOnline.
A post-mortem examination found Sara had suffered 25 fractures and 71 external injuries including bite marks and iron burns. Sharif was jailed last month alongside Sara’s stepmum Beinash Batool, 30, and the girl’s uncle Faisal Malik, 29. Sharif was given a life term with a minimum of 40 years.
Sharif’s injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening. A source told The Sun on Thursday: “He was lucky to survive, has had to have stitches and will have scars as a permanent reminder of the attack. The guards tried to keep him safe because he obviously had a target on his back after the case was such big news.

“Something like this was always on the cards, and an attack was probably only a matter of time. Sharif has tried to keep his head down since coming into the jail, but word quickly got round about who he was.”

The Prison Service said: “Police are investigating an assault on a prisoner at HMP Belmarsh on January 1. It would be inappropriate to comment while they investigate.”
