People defied Met Police warnings and forced their way into London’s ticketed fireworks display on New Year’s Eve. Photos shared by The Sun show chaos as crowds forced their way through security on Victoria Street to get a spot watching the midnight fireworks on Embankment.
There were no reported injuries at the event where tickets would have set you back up to £50. The display lasted around 10 minutes and had the like of Ellie Goulding and Charlie XCX blaring in the background. A witness told The Sun: “It was dangerous. They didn’t even care that police and security were there.
“They were pushing people, being violent and jumping around. There was no regard for safety. Police haven’t arrested anyone – it’s Lawless London.” Security in hi-vis tried to calm the situation but to no avail as the partygoers began to charge, risking a crowd crush.

‘Everyone’s safety is at risk’
The actions came after the Met Police warned that people forcing their way into ticket New Year events is nothing new. Commander Nick John, who led the New Year’s Eve policing operation, said: “New Year’s Eve is always a night where demand is greater and I want to acknowledge the efforts of Met officers, staff, volunteers and Special Constables – as well as our colleagues in the other emergency services – who will be away from their families working hard to make sure everyone has a safe and enjoyable night.
“Regrettably in recent years we have seen an increase in incidents where a minority have tried to illegally force entry into ticketed events, putting everyone’s safety at risk. Anyone trying to gain entry in this way tomorrow could be arrested and could face prosecution.”
