A much-loved Coventry pub which closed after years of ‘trading at a loss’ will soon be reopening. Work is taking place to revamp the Town Wall Tavern on Bond Street.
Licensee Ian Brownsword said the city centre pub will be ‘everything it was before’ with a number of exciting changes set to be introduced. It will be reopening on Friday, February 28.
Contractors have been carrying out repairs at the Town Wall Tavern, which is also being redecorated. Food will also be served at the soon-to-be-open pub, including Sunday Roasts.

Children will be welcome at the centuries-old pub when they reopen on February 28. Guests will also be able to stay the night with an Airbnb also being introduced.

But not everything will be changing with the legendary Donkey Box said to be staying. Ian told CoventryLive that he was excited to be ‘bringing the Town Wall Tavern back to life’ ahead of the hugely anticipated reopening in February.
He said: “We plan to keep the traditional feel and charm of the pub! We do not want to ruin that, so we are being a bit careful with what we do and what we replace, just trying to keep it in keeping with the pub.”
Chimneys are being swept, and the centuries-old log fires are also being reconditioned. “We cannot wait to get open and meet some new faces! I am really looking forward to it,” Ian said.
Ian also urged people to get behind the Town Wall Tavern, saying: “We need the support to help keep the pub alive and help keep it open, and we will do everything we can to do that, but we just need the help of everybody else to do it as well!”
In a statement shared on Facebook, the Town Wall Tavern said: “We will be ready and open on February 28 and cannot wait to show you all what we are doing at the Town Wall Tavern. We invite you to join us from midday onwards to see what we have done and meet the new Town Wall team.”
