A nursery in Coventry where staff ‘know their children well’ and ‘form close bonds’ has received praise from Ofsted. Staff are said to ‘comfort and reassure’ children throughout the day with a ‘nurturing approach’ at Little Big Adventure Coventry in Tile Hill.
Inspectors visited the nursery from Tuesday, October 29, 2024, to Tuesday, November 12, 2024. The nursery received an overall ‘Good’ Ofsted rating.
Staff are said to give children a warm welcome on arrival, which helps them to separate from parents and carers easily and begin their day in the nursery happy and settled. Inspectors described the staff as ‘good role models’ and teach children by example, such as how to behave well.

Staff also give children good-quality care and education and teach children a wide range of skills they will need to be successful learners. They consider what each child knows and what they need to learn next and also make accurate assessments of each child’s development. They use this information to challenge children effectively and hone the skills they have.
In addition, the well-sequenced curriculum provides a good starting point for children to build and extend their knowledge, and as a result, children make good progress. Leaders are committed to providing children with good education and quality care and aim for all children to be their best.
Inspectors added that staff demonstrate a good understanding of the needs of children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) by assessing children’s development to identify gaps in their learning. This means that staff initiate interventions at the earliest stage to provide additional support for children.
Children also build on their understanding of early mathematics, some already accomplished in higher numerals. Staff also support children’s speech and language. For example, babies enjoy books early as they turn pages, repeat the sounds, and point at the animals. They introduce a new language to toddlers, i.e., exploring the ‘sticky’ texture and helping them ‘scoop and mix’ with new tools.
Staff also teach children good hygiene routines to keep themselves healthy. The team is sensitive to the personal care needs of younger children while older children become independent in their own care. Parents also say they are pleased with their children’s care and education at the nursery. They are informed about their children’s learning, and at home, children talk about and act out the day’s routines.
Staff who work at the nursery feel supported and valued, with regular supervision, training and induction support given to support and help them gain various skills and knowledge to undertake their roles. Staff who are training also have time to complete their studies and receive good support from colleagues.
