Bosses at a Decathlon store in Coventry have asked for the go-ahead to sell a certain type of goods. Coventry City Council has received a planning application from the store based within the Arena Retail Park on Classic Drive.
It asks for a lawful development certificate for proposed Use Class E. for the store, which is based in what is known as unit 9A. In the application itself, it explains that the firm wants to start selling toys.
Under its current permission, the store sells sports clothing and footwear. The proposal makes the case for toys to be sold too.

According to the application, it states: “The 2012 permission expressly permits the sale of recreational goods from a single unit within Phase II site.
“The wording of the condition confirms the definition of recreational goods includes the sale of sports clothing and footwear. However, it does not exclude any categories of recreational goods.
“Indeed the current occupier of the unit, Decathlon, sell other recreational goods not explicitly listed within the conditions, including camping and sports equipment.
“It therefore follows that the only interpretation of recreational goods is that it includes the full range of goods as set out in the COICOP at the time, which includes the sale of toys, games and hobbies.
“It is therefore considered that the sale of toys from the floorspace at the Phase II site, including unit 9A, would be lawful in relation to condition 3 of the 2012 permission.”
The application is now being considered by planning officers at the city council.
