Coventry Citizens Advice seeking volunteers as demand grows

Coventry Citizens Advice is calling for locals to give up their Fridays and volunteer this New Year at the independent advice-giving charity. Based at the head office in Foleshill, the charity is launching an appeal for volunteers who can give their time to help people in the city struggling with household bills, employment issues, and energy prices.

The charity said full training and support would be provided to ensure volunteers can support clients and ‘flourish themselves.’ One client from the outreach project in foodbanks said the charity’s support has been a ‘relief’. They said: “I just cannot thank you enough for everything you have done for us. You can’t imagine the relief. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted.”

Volunteers have also found it fulfilling to give back to society. One volunteer, Denise, said: “Helping people is my passion. Volunteering at Coventry Citizens Advice is perfect for me. I learn new skills, meet many people, and make a positive difference in clients’ lives. The role is very rewarding.”

Volunteer and Training Co-ordinator Marian Nelson added: “If you are passionate about helping others, interested in people, patient, and methodical, we would love to hear from you. You do not need any formal qualifications as we give you all the training you need. We would love to hear from you if you have the time to offer, especially if you can volunteer on a Friday.”

Coventry Citizens Advice requires a minimum time commitment of one day a week, which can be split over two days, plus time for home learning. Initial training and supervision will take place at the head office in Foleshill. After training, the flexibility to volunteer from home is possible.

For more information, visit the Coventry Citizens Advice website here or email volunteering@coventrycab.org.uk. The application form is available on the website, with the closing deadline on Monday, February 3 at 9am.
