Costa Coffee in Little Island has been granted planning permission to install a new drive-thru, with construction expected to begin in the near future.
The new feature was approved by Cork County Council subject to a number of conditions.
The planning application requested permission to build a new service hatch, a 3.5m wide drive-thru lane and other associated works.
The drive-thru will be located at their outlet in Eastgate Retail Park, not far from the Mahon exit along the N40 – a handy location for motorists looking to grab a hot drink on the go.
The planning permission was awarded by Cork County Council under a set of fairly typical conditions but the local authority also requested a few changes from the original application.
Developers MBCC Foods (Ireland) Ltd. were asked to remove an illuminated sign ‘in the interest of visual amenity’. The council also requested that a section of covered bike parking and lockers be installed to promote sustainable travel.
There’s more good planning news elsewhere in Cork as the city council approved plans to revamp a long-empty restaurant property into five new flats.
Cork City Council gave permission this week for Chimera Ltd for the development of the protected structures at 38 and 39 Washington Street for residential use.
The ground floor of the two properties is interconnected and was most recently in use as Flame, a once-popular ‘street food’ restaurant which has been closed for over five years. Since the Asian-fusion food spot closed in 2019, it has sat vacant and has fallen into disrepair over the years.
The council has granted permission for four 1-bed apartments and one 2-bed apartment.
