A coach was cordoned off in Penzance on Monday (January 13) following a fatal collision in Somerset. Police were called to Penzance bus station, on Station Road, and the surrounding roads were reportedly closed to traffic while officers were at the scene.
The cordon came after a 68-year-old man died following a collision in Taunton during the early hours of Monday morning. The victim, Barry Sellick, died after a crash just before 1am on the A38 Wellington New Road, Taunton.
Formal identification is yet to take place, but Barry’s family have been updated and are being supported by a specialist family liaison officer. A file will be prepared on behalf of the coroner.
As part of the police investigation, a man in his 60s was arrested in Cornwall on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. After CCTV and dashcam footage was reviewed, the man was released without charge and without further action.
CornwallLive was told of a large police presence at the bus station on Monday. One witness said: “The bus was taped off just after 8am this morning with a police presence. It was taken away late this afternoon on a police low loader, with roads closed off.”
A statement from Avon and Somerset Police said: “The man who sadly died following a collision in Taunton earlier this week has been named.
“While formal identification has yet to take place, we believe the deceased to be 68-year-old Barry Sellick. We have updated Barry’s family and our thoughts remain with them during this difficult time. They continue to be offered support from a specialist family liaison officer.
“Barry sadly died following a collision on the A38 Wellington New Road just before 1am on Monday 13 January.
“Following the incident, we issued an appeal to locate witnesses and anyone with footage.
“As part of our investigation, we arrested a man in his 60s in Cornwall on Monday afternoon on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
“Following a number of enquiries, including reviewing CCTV and dashcam footage, the man was released without charge and without further action.
“As no offences were identified, officers are now preparing a file on behalf of the coroner.”
