The family of a man murdered in a drive-by shooting “will not be able to rest” until they find out what happened. Eddie Pybis was gunned down more in Anfield than a decade ago, on 3 January 2011.

The then-20-year-old was sitting in the front passenger seat of a silver Volvo on Utting Avenue when shots rang out from a passing vehicle. Eddie suffered a chest wound and died due to his injuries six days later in hospital.

On the 14th anniversary of his death, detectives, who have previously said they believe the identity of those behind the shooting is well known among the city’s gangland underworld, have made a further re-appeal.

Kevin Clague, Head of the Serious Crime Review Unit, told the ECHO: “Although 14 years has passed, we remain determined to see those responsible for Eddie’s murder brought to justice.

“More importantly, Eddie’s family will not be able to rest until those responsible for his murder are put before the courts. We know loyalties can change over time, and we are confident there are people in the community who know who is responsible.

“If, all these years later, those people are in a different situation and now feel able to assist, I would urge them to come forward and help us to get closure for Eddie’s family. No murder investigation is ever closed, and any piece of information, however small, maybe the key to finally solving this case.”

Merseyside Police’s investigation team are “particularly keen” to trace the driver of a black BMW 7 series, registration number DX57 UHU, that they believe was used by those who shot Eddie Pybis.

The force added: “The car was stolen from the Knutsford area on 2 December 2010 and was spotted driving erratically in the Anfield area shortly before the murder. It was later found burned out in Bellefield Avenue, West Derby, just hours after the shooting.

Officers have also appealed for information about an incident that happened at around 1.30 pm earlier that day (January 3) in Larkhill Close, which involved a silver Ford Focus with a registration plate NH57 HKX and a dark-coloured saloon car.

“Detectives are keen to trace two men who were travelling in the saloon car who were involved in an altercation with the occupants of the silver Ford Focus. Both cars drove off at speed along Larkhill Lane towards Townsend Lane.

CCTV of the stolen black BMW police now think was used in the shooting murder of Eddie Pybis

“It is believed that Eddie was also the front seat passenger in the silver Ford Focus, which resulted in its windows being smashed from the altercation and changing vehicles to the silver Volvo.”
