Chester golden girl Amy Truesdale says she’s “deeply humbled and immensely grateful” after being recognised in His Majesty The King’s New Year Honours List. The Paralympic champion from Hoole has been awarded an MBE for services to taekwondo.
It comes after ome-time city centre shoe shop worker Amy made history by winning gold in the 2024 Paris Games. The 35-year-old dominated the final of the women’s +65kg category with her victory sealing ParalympicsGB’s first-ever gold in the sport.
Reacting to the news of her honour, Amy said: “I am deeply humbled and immensely grateful for the honour of being awarded an MBE. This moment is not only a recognition of my efforts but also a testament to the collective support, collaboration, and inspiration of so many incredible individuals around me.”
Her summer success also saw Amy – who in the early days honed her skills at Chester’s Northgate Arena – become the maiden fighter to hold Paralympic, World and European titles concurrently. “It’s the last medal I needed to complete my career,” she said after her victory.
“I’m the Paralympic champion and I’ve made history. I am so grateful for the support. I had three hard fights. People who know me know that after Tokyo, the hardest fight is the one that I have every day in my mind and I smashed that so I’m grateful that was the fight that I won.”
