Cheshire issued with weather warning for ice as temperatures to plummet

Having been hit with New Year’s Day weather warnings for rain and wind, Cheshire is now braced for icy conditions as temperatures are set to fall below freezing overnight. The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for ice that covers the entire county from 4pm today until 10am tomorrow.

Some parts of the county, such as Macclesfield, could see temperatures plummet to -4C tomorrow morning. The forecast suggests the cold temperatures will last for much of the week, with sleet showers also likely over the weekend.

The yellow weather warning states: “Icy surfaces leading to some difficult travel conditions. A band of rain, sleet and hill snow will clear southwards during Wednesday afternoon and evening.

“As skies clear in its wake, and with standing water following earlier rain in places, ice is likely to form quite quickly on untreated surfaces, leading to difficult travel conditions. Wintry showers are also likely along some north-facing coasts overnight, increasing the chance of ice in places.”
