Extra trains are being put on, so that revellers all over Surrey can get into London for New Year’s celebrations. From midnight on New Year’s Eve (Tuesday, December 31) into the early hours of New Year’s Day (Wednesday, January 1) extra services will run from some central London stations so passengers can get home.
Network Rail have warned passengers to plan ahead with trains and stations expected to be busier than normal. This is especially true in London, where the draw of fireworks means high visitor numbers are expected.
With some train companies still running an amended timetable, as well as the possibility of last minute changes it is important to continue to check that journeys remain possible.
South Western Railway will be running additional services on New Year’s Day after midnight from London Waterloo to Guildford via Woking, Kingston via Richmond, Twickenham via Wimbledon, and Woking.
The Gatwick Express and Southern will be operating a revised service all day from Monday, December 30 to New Year’s Day meaning trains will run to an amended and reduced timetable.
Great Western Railway will run no additional services. On most routes, trains will stop running earlier than normal in the evening on New Year’s Eve (December 31).
For those trying to get around London there will be all-night London Underground services on most Tube routes.
Helen Hamlin, Network Rail’s director of system operations, said: “We want everyone celebrating New Year’s Eve in London to have a fantastic time, including being able to get home smoothly. We know that a lot of people will be travelling home after the festivities, and we’d urge them to plan their route ahead of time, including knowing what time their last train home is. Passengers can keep up to date with the latest travel information by visiting National Rail Enquiries or their train operator’s website.”
Claire Mann, Transport for London’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “The majority of the TfL transport network will operate this New Year’s Eve helping customers make the most of their evening in the capital. Most TfL services will operate throughout the night into New Year’s Day making it the easiest, safest and most affordable way to get around the city. We do ask that customers check before they travel as some planned works are taking place.”
