Cause of huge blaze at business on Railway Street confirmed

The cause of a huge fire that broke out at a car salvage yard in Grimsby was accidental, Humberside Fire and Rescue has confirmed.

Crews from Humberside Fire and Rescue were called to Railway Street at around 11am on Sunday morning with reports of a blaze in the yard of Grimsby Car Salvage.

Plumes of thick grey smoke could be seen in various parts of Grimsby and Cleethorpes and further afield in Tetney.

Police were also at the scene, with officers going from door to door and advising people to stay away from the area and residents on Railway Street to keep their doors and windows closed. The road was closed to motorists as firefighters worked to tackle the blaze.

In the days after the incident, work has been underway at the site to clear the debris of cars destroyed as a result of the fire.
