The Metropolitan Police and London Fire Brigade are investigating an East London shop fire leading to the destruction of a cash machine. The brigade were called to the scene at Ardleigh Green Road at around 2am on Sunday, December 29.
Six fire engines and 40 fire engines rushed to the shop, which has flats above it. A cash machine was destroyed and half of a secure room on the ground floor was damaged.
A first-floor flat was damaged and no injuries were reported. The blaze was under control shortly after 3am.
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters tackled a fire at a shop with flats above on Ardleigh Green Road in Hornchurch.
“A cash machine was destroyed and a half of a secure room on the ground floor and a first-floor flat were damaged by fire. There were no reports of any injuries.
“The Brigade’s Control Officers received the first call at 0202 and mobilised crews from Hornchurch, Harold Hill, Romford, Dagenham and surrounding fire stations to the scene. The fire was under control by 0307.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.”
