A caravan was totally destroyed by a fire in Crewkerne during the early hours of this morning (Sunday, January 12). The blaze spread to three vehicles, a garage and a bungalow.
Fire crews were called to the scene shortly after 1.30am and found a caravan well alight on a driveway. The flames quickly spread to a garage and the roof of a bungalow.
The firefighters using breathing apparatus, hose reel jets, main jets and thermal imaging cameras to extinguish the blaze. Two people were treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation.
The blaze was put out by around 10.20am. The fire service said the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “Fire control received several 999 calls reporting a caravan on fire on a driveway. Two fire engines were initially sent, however further calls were stating that the fire was now spreading to the roof of a property. A further fire engine and aerial ladder platform was also sent.
“On arrival crews confirmed this caravan was well alight and it had also spread to the garage and roof space of a bungalow. Crews requested further assistance, so another 2 fire engines were sent.”
They added: “The caravan was totally destroyed by fire, along with 3 motor vehicles, a garage and the bungalow. Two people suffered smoke inhalation and were treated on scene by paramedics. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.”
