Cannabis grow found after fire at electrical substation in Grimsby

A cannabis grow has been found by police after a fire broke out at an electrical substation in Grimsby.

Emergency services were called to Oxford Street at around 6.45pm on Thursday following reports of the blaze. A cordon was put in place to allow crews from Humberside Fire and Rescue to put out the fire.

Hundreds of residents were left without power, and the road remained closed to motorists on Friday.

While conducting lines of enquiries, police discovered a suspected cannabis grow inside a property nearby.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the cultivation of cannabis and abstracting electricity without authority. He remains in police custody.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “A scene guard remains in place whilst officers carry out lines of enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding the cause of the fire.

“From investigations carried out so far, nobody is believed to have been injured. Anyone who has information that could assist with our enquiries is asked to contact us on our non-emergency number 101, quoting log 353 of 9 January.”
