A popular bar in North Cork has suffered ‘extensive damages’ after a fire broke out at the premises early this morning.
Gardaí and emergency services rushed to the scene of a blaze at Charlie Mac’s pub in the Fermoy town centre at approximately 7am. The incident was reported as large clouds of smoke were seen in the area and the rooms above the bar were evacuated.
Fermoy and Mitchelstown’s fire services attended the callout and traffic restrictions were put in place. Dedicated firefighters battled the blaze for hours to bring it under control – there were no injuries, however a spokesperson for Cork County Council has confirmed ‘extensive’ damages to the building.
The Mitchelstown crew left the scene at 11.30am however the Fermoy team remain on the scene to ensure everything is safe.
A spokesperson for Cork County Council said: “Units from Fermoy and Mitchelstown attended a fire at a licenced premises on McCurtain Street, Fermoy this morning at approximately 07.00am.
“There were no injuries, but there is extensive damage to the building.
“The Mitchelstown crew left the scene at 11.30am and Fermoy crew remain to make the scene safe.”
A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are currently at the scene of a fire that occurred at a commercial premises on Thursday 2nd January 2025 in Fermoy, County Cork.
“The incident occurred this morning. Fire services extinguished the fire.”
