New research has revealed that 35% of Brits are choosing to stay in rather than go out this January. Popular at-home activities include movie nights (24%), home renovations (17%), and games nights (15%).
The data comes from Currys, with 63% looking to save money this month, the study of 2,000 adults found that people will be cutting back on eating and drinking out (36%), making coffee at home instead of buying it from cafes (21%), and selling unwanted tech for cash (13%)
Key money-saving strategies this January include reducing meals and drinks out (36%), having nights in (35%), at-home swaps (21%), selling or returning unwanted Christmas gifts (15%), trading in unwanted tech for cash (13%), cutting back on beauty treatments (12%), buying energy-efficient tech (12%), and changing phone/broadband provider (10%).

Despite tighter budgets, some are investing in money-saving gadgets like air-fryers to cut electricity use (14%) or cook restaurant-style meals at home (14%), coffee machines to save on buying coffees out (13%), and beauty tech to recreate salon treatments at home (11%). As the nation stays in, Currys has seen a surge in searches for products that recreate ‘outside’ treats at home.
Popcorn makers have seen a 128% YOY increase and haircare a 33% YOY increase this January.
