Two Teesside eateries are hoping to clinch a special award in a national food competition.
The pair are both through to the semi-finals of the British Kebab Awards 2025 – which is urging people to vote for their favourites. The Kebab Centre in Middlesbrough’s Linthorpe Road has secured a semi final place in the Best Delivery category.
And, the Pomegranate Persian Tea Room, in Great Ayton, has been placed in the semi finals of the Best Kebab Restaurant (Regional). Ibrahim Dogus, founder of the British Kebab Awards, said: “Kebabs are a staple of our national diet, and it’s time to decide on Britain’s favourite kebab restaurants of the year.
“The nominees represent everything from traditional family-run establishments to innovative new ventures that are pushing the boundaries with vegan options and fine dining experiences. There’s incredible representation from across the UK in the semi-finalists, with nominees from Belfast to Brighton, and Arbroath to London. Hidden gems in small towns are competing against prestigious city restaurants, proving that amazing kebabs can be found everywhere.
“This year’s nominees represent everything that makes the British kebab industry special – diversity, quality, tradition, and innovation, and we’re proud to be highlighting the leaders in this great industry.” A spokesperson for Pomegranate Persian Tea Room said on social media: “This recognition is a testament to our dedication to quality and the passion we pour into every dish.
“We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all our wonderful customers for your unwavering support. Your love for our food inspires us every day.
“A special shout out goes to our incredible staff, whose hard work and commitment make our tea room a special place. We couldn’t have achieved this without you! Here’s to more delicious moments together. Thank you for being part of our journey.”
The categories in the British Kebab Awards are: Best Delivery, Best Greek Restaurant, Best Kosher Shawarma Restaurant, Best Lebanese Restaurant, Best Value Restaurant, Best Vegan Kebab, Chef of the Year, Customer Satisfaction, Fine Dining Restaurant, Kebab Van of the Year, Supplier and Manufacturer Award and Best Newcomer.
Also reaching the semi finals is Turkish Kitchen Meze and Grill in Durham’s Saddler Street which has been placed in the Customer Satisfaction category, The Bake One in High Street Gosforth, Newcastle in the Best Lebanese Restaurant category and The Bake Eldon, Eldon Square, Newcastle in Best Newcomer.
