Boxing Day police chase ends in arrest after stinger brings van to a stop

A man has been arrested following a Boxing Day police chase.

On Thursday, December 26, North Yorkshire Police officers attempted to stop a white Ford Transit van in western York. However, the van failed to stop when indicated to by the police.

The driver then proceeded to flee, with the police in close pursuit. The specially-trained roads policing officers tracked him to Hessay.

There, at the junction with the A59, the police deployed a stinger. Following this, the van was brought to a quick stop.

At around 5.30pm. North Yorkshire Police arrested the driver, a man in his 30s, on suspicion of failing to stop, dangerous driving, failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis, and obstructing a police officer. He remains in police custody.

North Yorkshire Police said: “A man has been arrested after a police pursuit in York on Boxing Day. On the afternoon of Thursday 26 December, North Yorkshire Police officers moved in to stop a white Ford Transit van at a location west of the city, but it failed to stop.

“The driver made off, pursued by specially-trained roads policing officers. At Hessay, near the junction with the A59, officers deployed a stinger, and the vehicle was brought to a halt.

“At about 5.30pm, the driver, a man in his 30s, was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, dangerous driving, failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis, and obstructing a police officer. He remains in custody at this time.”
