Boots price difference across stores as Galway shop’s popular item only €3 elsewhere

A savvy Boots shopper has discovered some of the most popular items sold in Irish stores are significantly cheaper in the UK.

Some of the bestselling personal care items in the country were amongst those noted as keener value by the Galway shopper, but one particular product saw a three-euro difference.

The Dove Men+Care Body and Face Wash Clean Comfort 400ml sells for just £2.50 in UK stores, but retails for €6.49 in Irish branches. As of today, that £2.50 UK price is just €2.97 once converted, meaning a €3.52 hike for Irish customers at over the double the price.

Other products saw similar price differences, Sure Men Invisible Anti-Perspirant Deodorant 48hr 200ml sells at UK Boots for £2, while it sells at Boots in Ireland for €5.

With today’s exchange rate, that £2 UK price for the Sure Men Invisible Anti-Perspirant Deodorant 48hr converts to €2.38, meaning that Irish customers are once again paying just over double.

In women’s toiletries, there were some similar stories with a significant difference seen in the bestselling Dove Powder with ¼ moisturising cream Anti-perspirant Deodorant Spray.

In the UK, Dove Powder with ¼ moisturising cream Anti-perspirant Deodorant Spray 200ml sells for £2.50 at Boots stores, while Irish Boots customers will pay €5.99.

It is worth noting that a slice of the price can be excused by the difference in Ireland and the UK’s VAT rates on the products. The UK’s rate on these products is 20%, while Ireland’s is 23%. Other factors, like transport to Ireland from the UK also add to the Irish prices.

It’s also worth noting that many Boots products are roughly the same, including some bestsellers.

The Dove Original Beauty Bar Soap twin pack sells for £1.75 in UK Boots outlets, while the Irish stores sell the Dove Original Beauty Bar Soap twin pack for just €1.99.

This makes the soap twin pack cheaper in Ireland as, as of today, that £1.75 UK Boots price on the Dove Original Beauty Bar Soap twin pack converts to €2.08.
