Gardaí have launched an investigation following the discovery of a woman’s body in Mallow.
The alarm was raised this morning after the body of a woman in her 30s was found at a residential property in the Bridewell Lane area of the North Cork town.
Gardaí and Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margot Bolster attended the scene this afternoon, and the body has since been removed to Cork University Hospital.
The area has been sealed off to allow for a forensic and technical examination to take place. It’s understood that foul play has not been ruled out at this time, and Gardaí are awaiting the results of a post-mortem, which will determine the course of the investigation.
A senior investigating officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation, and an incident room has been established at Mallow Garda Station. A family liaison officer (FLO) has also been assigned to support the family.
Gardaí are asking any witnesses near Bridewell Lane between 9 pm last night, Thursday, 2nd January, and this morning, Friday, 3rd January 2025, at 10 am to come forward. They are also interested in any available camera footage or dash cam recordings.
