Bexley playground seriously vandalised before opening to public

A brand new playground in Bexley has been seriously vandalised before it has been opened to the public. Equipment meant for the relandscaped Riverside Gardens site due to open this spring has been covered in spray paint graffiti tags.

Bexley’s Cabinet Member for Growth, Cllr Munur said: “This is a disgusting act of senseless vandalism that achieves nothing but upset in our community.

“We are working with the police and will use any evidence available to ensure that the criminal who broke into the Riverside Gardens and did this is brought to justice.

“There are lots of flats in that area and I’d urge anyone with any information that might help to come forward.”

The council has put forward a plea for any information to help find the culprit for the vandalism. They have asked anyone with information that could help to email erith@bexley.gov.uk.

The newly refurbished Riverside Gardens are due to open in Spring 2025.

New seating, a children’s playground and an outdoor fitness zone, as well as a community gardening area maintained by Friends of Riverside Gardens, will be located along a ‘Thames Water promenade’ running the length of the gardens and opening them up to the riverside views.
