Passengers flying to and from Belfast City Airport are being urged to stay up to date with their flight status as Northern Ireland braces for a weather warning.
Tomorrow, December 31, has a yellow wind warning in place from 6am to 2pm. Strong westerly winds may lead to some travel disruption on New Year’s Eve, it has been warned by the Met Office.
The warning is for most of Northern Ireland, with Belfast included. The Met Office has said delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely and that it’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves.

In a statement issued on Monday, December 30, a spokesperson for Belfast City Airport said: “Due to adverse weather conditions predicted across the UK and Ireland for 30th Dec and 31st Dec, there may be some disruption to flights. Passengers are advised to check the status of their flight with the airline directly or at http://belfastcityairport.com.”
Senior Met Office forecaster Craig Snell said: “Moving into New Year’s Eve, another system moves in from the Atlantic, again, Scotland bearing the brunt of this one with some further heavy rain and snow and strong winds.
“The winds also picking up for Northern Ireland and northern England through New Year’s Eve as well, with rain arriving into that part of the world – basically quite an unsettled last day of the year for the northern half of the UK.”
