BBC Radio Manchester has announced the new host to take over its popular breakfast show in 2025. DJ Joe McGrath is the man taking on the coveted role, after previous host Anna Jameson announced her move to BBC news.
Joe will get to officially announce his big news to the whole of Manchester on Tuesday night – as he is hosting the big New Year’s Eve countdown show on a live stage at St Peter’s Square.
A crowd of 20,000 are expected for the big free fireworks event, which kicks off from 10pm and will see Joe lead the countdown to midnight live on stage.
Joe, 29, will start his new role with the BBC on breakfasts from Monday 3rd February. He had previously worked on the mid-morning show on Fridays at the station.
Joe said today: “I’m absolutely buzzin’ to get started – I love Manchester and the chance to wake up the greatest city in the world is something I can’t wait to do.”
Mancunian through-and-through, Joe has been presenting for the station for over a year and is well-known in the city for his quick-wit, story-telling and love of Manchester United.
Joe was born and bred in Stockport and as a huge Reds fan, he will continue to present BBC Radio Manchester’s United podcast The Devil’s Advocate on BBC Sounds.
BBC Radio Manchester Executive Editor, Andrew Bowman says: “Joe will do a great job for Greater Manchester with a show packed with fun, personality and all the information listeners need to get their day off to a great start”.
It was announced earlier this month that former BBC Radio Manchester breakfast presenter Anna Jameson has taken up a new role in TV news for BBC North West Tonight, starting from the New Year.
Phil Trow will be covering the breakfast show through January, until Joe takes up his new role.
Joe McGrath kicks off his new show, every weekday 6am-10am from Monday 3rd February on BBC Radio Manchester.
