Bank of Dave millionaire reveals why he still lives in Burnley after earning fortune

There really is no place like home – just ask Dave Fishwick.

The man who inspired Bank of Dave on Netflix still resides in his beloved Burnley alongside his wife, Nicky, who has been by his side for over 30 years.

And despite having the luxury of being able to get behind the wheel of his Range Rover, Ferrari or even his chopper, Dave still chooses to live in Lancashire.

Speaking to Lancs Live for his new film Bank of Dave 2: The Lone Ranger, he responded to being asked about why he wasn’t sipping cocktails on a hot sandy beach.

He spoke about the little things in life which bring him happiness, like going to a local cafe in Burnley for his pie, chips and cup of tea.

Dave said it had become like a politician’s surgery and he said: “Someone will come next to me and say, ‘right Dave, I’ve got this problem or this business can I have a loan’ and they will just come sit with me.”

And as for why he wouldn’t want to be anywhere else, he added: “I get a real kick out of it, especially when I am walking down the street and I go past a shop window and there is a couple of girls working there or there is a guy there that has taken a couple of apprentices on. I just like seeing that because I think, ‘well that’s cool.’”

Dave famously earned his money from selling minibuses after previously dropping out of school aged 16 to work on a building site.

He eventually set up his own community bank called Burnley Savings and Loans and has lent more than £27million to people and business with all profits going back to helping others.

His Bank of Dave biopic on Netflix starring Rory Kinnear as Dave Fishwick captured the hearts of the nation – and the man himself said this was much more satisfying than money.

And as for why he will give 90% of his wealth away one day, he said: “One of my children is a front line police officer and the other one works with animals and I have two grandchildren, two little boys.

“Myself and Nicky (his wife) and my family have all the money we need. We are going to give 90% plus of it away. I am a big believer in letting children have enough to do anything but not too much to do nothing.”
