Mobile phone users can save £240 a year by being savvy with their contracts. eSIM travel company Airalo has highlighted how users could save more than £20 per month on data expenses with this one hack – accounting to £240 a year.
By making one simple swap, mobile users could find they can keep hold of their change and lose some frustration. Airalo e-sim is just one option that network customers could opt for when following the advice, they have been told.
By using an eSIM, mobile carriers could find their travelling becomes far easier and spares them needless charges. An eSIM is built directly into a device, meaning it does not need to be physically removed to change networks or plans.

An eSim is a virtual version of the Sim cards we usually have in our phones and means an ’embedded’ Sim. It controls our calls, texts and data, but it’s all digital. Instead of a physical card, there’s a tiny chip built into the phone or other compatible devices such as Apple watches or tablets (for example iPads) that support eSims.
You can buy eSims online and activate it by scanning a QR code, and it starts working right away. A spokesperson for the company told the Express newspaper: “Customers can save money on their monthly phone bill by using an eSIM, even when they’re not travelling.
“Downloading an eSIM for travelling, and turning off your primary SIM can significantly reduce fees. However, some customers may not realise they can benefit from using an eSIM in their local region. eSIMs offer a competitive price compared to leading UK network providers.”
Most Google Pixels and Apple iPhones have been compatible since around 2018, while Samsung’s flagship phones launched since 2020 can use eSims, Money Saving Expert has pointed out.
