Another teenager arrested on suspicion of murder after Ilkeston stabbing

A fifth teenager has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a young man was fatally stabbed in a Derbyshire town. Noah Smedley was found with injuries consistent with being stabbed in Heanor Road, Ilkeston, on Saturday (December 28) evening.

Seven people were arrested, including four 17-year-old boys, on suspicion of murder. A 52-year-old man and two 16-year-old girls, as well as one of the 17-year-old boys, were all arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender in connection with the investigation.

A 16-year-old girl has been released without charge and another girl, also 16, has been released on police bail, pending further enquiries. Now, a further boy, aged 17, has been arrested on suspicion of murder, taking the total number arrested to eight.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire police said: “An 18-year-old who died following a stabbing in Ilkeston on Saturday has been named by police and his family have released a picture of him. Officers were called to Heanor Road at 8.20pm by East Midlands Ambulance Service to reports of a man collapsed in the road.

“Noah Smedley was found with injuries consistent with being stabbed and died at the scene just before 9pm. A further boy, aged 17 has now been arrested on suspicion of murder, taking the total number arrested to eight.

“The investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information or footage is asked to contact us quoting reference number 24*767926.”
