The Met Office has issued the latest in a series of weather warnings for North Wales. Following a period of wet and windy weather over the New Year break, a cold snap has led to a number of adverse weather alerts.
And a new ice warning has now been issued. The warning, which covers Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham, comes into force at 4pm today [January 3] and remains in place until 10am tomorrow [January 4].
A Met Office spokesperson said: “Temperatures will again fall widely below freezing during Friday evening. This will allow ice to readily form on untreated surfaces, particularly where roads and pavements remain wet from wintry showers.
“Scattered showers will fall as a mixture of rain, sleet and snow. Most areas are unlikely to see any fresh accumulations of snow though a slight covering is possible in places, especially over parts of northern Scotland.”
They said the conditions could lead to icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, and the potential for injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.
After the ice warning comes to an end on Saturday morning, a yellow warning for snow and ice, which covers all of Wales, will come into effect from 12pm. It is in force until 11.59pm on Sunday, with the Met Office warning of power cuts, travel delays and the potential for rural communities being cut off. You can read more about that here.
