Alton Towers unveils plans for new rollercoaster in 2026

Alton Towers has unveiled plans for a new rollercoaster – and it could open next year. The theme park is already famous for thrilling rides including Nemesis Reborn, The Smiler, Rita and Oblivion.

But now it wants to add a new ‘junior rollercoaster’ aimed at young children. It will be built in CBeebies Land and is expected to open to the public in 2026.

Speculation is mounting that the attraction could be themed around hit TV show Bluey but no details have been confirmed at this stage.

Alton Towers revealed the news via on Instagram last month and a planning application has now been submitted from Merlin Entertainments to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council.

A spokesman wrote: “Exciting news! We’ve submitted a planning application for a brand-new junior coaster in CBeebies Land, which we hope to open in 2026. If approved, this new attraction will be perfect for our youngest thrill-seekers and their families to enjoy together. Stay tuned for updates – we can’t wait to share more!”

The application, which has not yet been validated by planning officers, reads: “The proposal is for the removal of an existing attraction and to replace it with a new attraction and ancillary buildings (station and maintenance buildings) within the CBeebies Land area of Alton Towers.”

The application has already attracted support. One resident wrote: “I give my support for this application made by Alton Towers Resort for a new junior rollercoaster to be placed in CBeebies Land within the resort. It will give excitement for the little ones and fun for all the family to enjoy.”

Fans commenting on Alton Towers’ post said they hoped the new rollercoaster would be themed around Bluey. Th resort already offers a live experience with Bluey, her little sister Bingo and their parents Bandit and Chilli.

CBeebies Land, which opened in 2014, is currently home to 13 family-friendly rides including Octonauts, Postman Pat and Peter Rabbit.
