A number of schools across Merseyside have closed after snow hit the region once again. Merseyside is currently under a yellow weather warning for snow and ice issued by the Met Office.

It has been in place overnight and is set to remain until 10am today, Tuesday, January 7. The adverse weather conditions has caused disruption to travel including on the roads, to train services and flights.

The Met Office said in its forecast: “Icy stretches are expected to develop due to ongoing wet surfaces following earlier rain and, in places, snowmelt. Frequent sleet or snow showers are also expected to affect Wales and parts of northwest and southwest England moving into the Midlands and parts of southern England during the rest of the night.

“These are likely to produce snow accumulations of 2-4 cm in places, chiefly above 200 metres, but also possibly at low levels under heavier and more persistent shower bands over North Wales, northwest England and into the Peak District, where a few places above 300 m could see 5-10 cm of snow accumulating.”

Some schools have also made the decision to close to staff and pupils, many of them in Wirral, due to the weather. Below is a list of schools closed that the ECHO are aware of. If you’re child’s school is not included in the list, email us at olivia.williams@reachplc.com.

*Please note this list is being constantly updated and is based on the best-available information received by the Liverpool ECHO from schools across Merseyside. Always check with your child’s school for the latest information direct from them. Maghull High School was initially included in this list but we have been made aware the school is open as normal.
