Adam Forshaw leaves Plymouth Argyle for Championship rivals

Adam Forshaw has swapped a Championship relegation fight with Plymouth Argyle for a push-off place with Blackburn Rovers.

The experienced midfielder has joined Blackburn on a deal until the end of the 2024/25 campaign. He is the first player to leave the Pilgrims in the January transfer window and is likely to be followed by a few others.

Forshaw’s departure frees up wages which can be put towards improving Argyle’s squad under new head coach Miron Muslic, who was appointed last night on a contract until the summer of 2028.

A club statement this morning read as follows: “Argyle have today agreed to mutually cancel midfielder Adam Forshaw’s contract so he can join Sky Bet Championship rival, Blackburn Rovers.

“The 33-year-old joined Argyle in January last year and went on to make 30 appearances for the club. Adam has expressed his desire to move closer to home and we thank him for all his efforts during his time with Argyle and wish him all the best for the future.”

Forshaw made seven starts and nine substitute appearances for the Pilgrims in the Championship this term, most recently off the bench in the second half of the 0-0 draw away to Stoke City last Saturday. Argyle will be away to John Eustace’s Blackburn, who are currently seventh in the table, on Saturday, February 15.
