An advert for a clothing brand filmed on the day of Vicky Pattison’s wedding to Ercan Ramadan has been banned for glamourising smoking.
The advert for Mr Ercan’s company Endrick clothing shows his groom and groomsmen smoking cigars. Both he and former Geordie Shore star Vicky – who has 5.5m followers- shared the advert on their Instagram accounts.
The Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) investigated two complaints, both of which were upheld. On the first complaint, that the video in two ads glamourised smoking, the ASA concluded that the ads were irresponsible.
The ruling stated: “We considered that the video presented smoking in an appealing manner and suggested that it was part of a glamourous and aspirational lifestyle.”
On the second complaint, which challenged whether an Instagram post was obviously identifiable as a marketing communication, the ASA found: “On that basis we concluded that the ad was not obviously identifiable as a marketing communication and as such breached the Code.”
Since the ruling, the ads have been removed from both accounts. Ms Pattison confirmed that any of her posts featuring Endrick Clothing would be labelled as ads in the future.
The couple married at London’s Marylebone Town Hall in August and held a second ceremony and party in Italy in September. Their marriage was filmed for E4 TV show called Vicky Pattison: My Big Fat Geordie Wedding.
