Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire to be hit with two more days of snow as schools close for third day

A new weather warning has been issued for the north-east for the entirety of today and tomorrow as Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire brace for yet more snow in the coming days.

The most recent warning was due to end at 12pm today. However, a new yellow Met Office warning, once again for snow and ice, has now been issued.

The latest alert comes into effect at 12pm on Wednesday, just as the current warning ends, and will continue across all of tomorrow (Thursday, January 9), ending at 11.59pm. It will take in Aberdeen and the majority of Aberdeenshire, with only areas south of Stonehaven avoiding the warning.

While the north-east is forecast to avoid the worst of the snow today, it is due to be hit hard on Thursday, with more snow showers. Icy stretches of road are also expected during daytimes thaws.

The Met Office warning reads: “Sleet and snow showers will continue for the rest of Wednesday and Thursday, before dying out by the end of Thursday evening. Northwest Scotland and the Northern and Western Isles will see the most frequent showers on Wednesday, before extending to the Northeast on Thursday.

“Further accumulations of 3-7 cm are expected to low levels, with 10-15 cm possible above 150 metres. Where any modest daytime thaw has occurred, icy stretches are likely on untreated surfaces.”

It comes as multiple schools across Aberdeenshire have closed their doors for the third day as heavy snow remains in place across the region.
