A diversion route is in place after a vehicle fire on the A30 in Devon. A stretch of the westbound carriageway is closed following the blaze and fuel spillage this afternoon (Monday, December 30).
The fire broke out between Exeter and Okehampton at around 2.40pm. Emergency services were called to the scene and a clear-up operation began.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service used foam to extinguish the blaze. The foam is now covering the A30 carriageway meaning that driving conditions are currently unsafe.
National Highways said: “An earlier vehicle fire has resulted in a fuel spillage that is affecting the westbound carriageway. Foam used by the Fire Service to extinguish the fire is now covering the carriageway and making driving conditions unsafe. Devon & Cornwall Police are leading the scene with National Highways contractors en route to assist.”
