A huge drone light show is coming to Cardiff and Wicked fans will love it

If you love Wicked, pretty lights and are always on the lookout for fun things to do in Cardiff, we’ve found just the thing for you. A light show featuring hundreds of drones is coming to Cardiff on Friday, March 21 which promises to take you on a journey through the land of Oz.

The Wizard of Oz drone light show at Sophia Gardens cricket stadium will mean viewers can watch Dorothy and her friends coming together like they have never seen before as they will be seen soaring through the sky. The display will last for 45 minutes, and people will also be able to grab their favourite snacks at the venue’s food village.

It promises fun for all the family and will feature a whole range of characters in the show from playful munchkins to the cowardly lion. Tickets alternate in price depending on how old you are. Find out about the latest events in Wales by signing up to our What’s On newsletter here

Experience company Yuup, which is co-running the event, said: “Join Dorothy and her faithful dog, Toto, as they embark on a whirlwind adventure that begins with a cyclone sweeping them from their Kansas farm to the Land of Oz. Along the way, they meet unforgettable friends: the brain-seeking scarecrow, the heart-longing Tin Woodman and the courage-craving cowardly lion. Together, they bravely confront the wicked witch and other life challenges, reminding us of the strength found in friendship and the power of self-belief.

“This is more than a show; witness a magical performance in the sky, tuck into your favourites in the food village and enjoy a world-class stadium experience with entertainment at Sophia Gardens.”

Advertising the event on their website, co-organiser Celestial say: “We’re pioneering the future of live entertainment. Drone light shows offer a greener alternative to fireworks and are kinder to the environment, our pets and wildlife.”
